this posting is a warning to those about to drink the koolaid and buy a touch (and probably an iphone). in case anyone wonders, itunes is 9.0.2 and the touch was 32g 3.1.2.
my nano 3g died. since the store I went to only had ghastly colours of nano 4g's, I thought I'd splurge and upgrade to the touch. this was a bad idea.
here's a brief summary of the way this device fails. I had the thing a week before returning it. god knows how much longer this list could grow to.
- no disk mode
- no way to disable the (useless) coverflow ui
- can't delete/hide useless icons ie.
- side volume control steps too big (10 steps from nothing to full)
- bluetooth is gimped badly
- the touch can see & pair with my blackberry, but that's the extent of it. no tethering.
- eyes free use is pretty much impossible
- no hardware next / previous buttons
- walking with device in coat pocket triggers song shuffle
- the tilt sensor sticks sticks badly, ie UI stays in landscape mode
- no menu persistence. going back in most cases brings you to the top of a list, not your previous location
- no ability to change the menu and/or system fonts
- itunes interface buttons too small for adult fingers
- battery life
and the biggie
- no podcast descriptions. really.
sorry fanboys. the truth hurts.
