Thread: apps that use accelerator

I just joined and only got my 3rd gen 32 GB touch today. Being a geek, I'm anxious to get some apps (games?) that make use of the accelerator in the touch other than just rotating the screen. For example, steering a race car by tilting the touch from side to side. I visited the app store and looked in categories/games, also sports and simulations and couldn't find any way to determine how the apps work. I downloaded a freebie, Crazy Taxi (or something like that), but the taxi is controlled by tapping arrows and other symbols on the screen. I'm cheap, so I don't want to pay a lot for a game that I may quickly tire of.

A second question that I need help with is how to listen to streaming radio. There is an FM station is boston that we can't receive on our stereo, but it comes in clearly from the web using a notebook PC. My question is: what do I need to listen to the station on the touch?

I have lots more questions about just using the touch, but will save those. These 2 questions will do for starters. I hope that I'm on the best forum for my questions. If not, please tell me where I should post them. Also, I tried searching for the first answer, but got no hits. Any hints about how best to search these forums?

I just figured out how to get streaming radio, at least from the Boston station of interest. The station shows a direct link (IP address) to listen to the station. That works on the touch. Now I can't figure out how to save that address in Safari as a favorite or bookmark. The screen that shows when the station is playing only as a pause control or a DONE button. When I click the done button, Safari goes back to a previous web page. How do i bookmark an IP address?

The radio station lists several apps that work with their streaming broadcast, but none of them work on the touch. I used the direct address they list in their FAQ page. That address is: 216.235.81.102:15440 You don't need to type http, just the numbers. That works fine. When that page opens, it fills the touch screen and there is no way to enter a bookmark. You can only click on "Done" to end the session. You can go back to your homepage and run other apps while the station keeps playing. I finally figured out how to do a bookmark for listening to the station. I bookmarked a page that I really didn't want. I then edited both the name and address of that bookmark. Problem solved.

I've already downloaded Asphalt free version, but haven't yet tried it. I will try F.A.S.T. as well, unless it costs more than I want to spend.

Ok, the radiostation is working here also.
If You press Done, then You get the safari screen, tap the + and You can put in the start screen as programm.
And FAST is free here.

there are lots of free games at itunes store using accelerometer. lane splitter is one game i am recently playing. NFS, real racing are also there for free downloads. Or u can jailbreak your itouch so that unpaid downloadable games could be installed.
