You need speakers. Be it headphones or just ipod speakers.

There are no external speakers in the iPod touch like there is on the iPhone. You'll need to hook it up to earphones, speakers, etc.

Yes, unlike the iPhone, the Touch does not have any built in speakers. The only sound that it emits is for the sound FX such as the "clicks" and "beeps" and for the alarms.

The 64GB Ipod Touch certainly does have a built in speaker, & you can listen to music/watch video/play games without using headphones or external speakers. I presume the 16GB & 32GB models are the same ? The volume isn't all that loud though, & you may struggle to hear it in a noisy environment.
