Can you change the background on the ipod touch home screen without hacking or...

...jailbreaking it? i want to put my own picture on the ipod touch homescreen, but is there a way to do this without hacking it? i dont want to mess up the ipod.

unfortunately you can't. and trust me... if you do jailbreak it by following trusted directions perfectly, then you shouldn't have any problems. I jailbroke mine as soon as i took it out of the box.lol. its amazing what you can do with a jailbroken ipod. it's worth the risk in my opinion. i can control my PC with my ipod wirelessly. i can alter any words on the ipod. there are hundreds of apps available. if you decide to jailbreak it, look up "ipodtouchmaster" on youtube. all of his videos are awesome and have yet to steer me wrong. :]

Yea jailbreaking is the greatest thing to come to the iPod world. Jailbreaking the touch releases a TON of possibilities. These possibilities are growing every day....

well... the greatest thing until the app store came along :P who knows, maybe apple will release this feature in a future update, i sure hope so

Thats definitely right! Appstore is pretty successful in putting an end to the jail breaking world! To be honest, many people including myself don't give a dang really whether the apps cost a few bucks. BUT one thing I would love to do is same as you, using my own wallpaper on the home screen.

We should figure out something about that! I hope some day an app comes out which enables us to change the wallpaper. I would definitely pay for that!

I mean what's the big deal with this black wallpaper on home screen, which Apple insists on keeping it?!?! They should allow the users that much to have a wallpaper of their own! Dang...

an app wouldnt be able to do it unfortunately, as apples sdk agreement will not allow developers to gain access to the music section of the ipod or any of the actual file system(change slider text, customising etc). they cant have apps runnning un he background either as they think it would use up all of the RAM in the device so thats one downside of using msn or any IM on an iphone/ipod touch
