I suggest using the silicone cases for your ipod. I used one for mine and it's helped so much. It doesnt scratch your ipod and will definitely keep fingerprints off.
When you drop your ipod, the silicone rubber helps to prevent any impacts which has helped me so many times!

If you dont like the silicone rubber look, then you could try the ipod pouches/cases that are available....there's some nice leather ones, but im not a big fan of them.

Lastly, if you dont want to bulk up your ipod with skins etc, you can get protection stickers. These just stick onto the front and back of your ipod and it helps prevent fingerprints and scratches. Its ok, but your ipod still isnt protected from drops etc.

As for cleaning the screen, you can get special wipes especially for the ipod. Just try looking into your electronics store

If you buy a cover from curries they are poretty good, there is loads to choose from. me myself have a 30gb ipod video and it has not got one sracth on it as i am using to covers.
I do reckonmend that if possible by a hard plastic cover and not the fabric cos they just get dirty to eay.

go to ebay and look up iPod skins - they are great and adhere to the iPod to prevent scratches. they also come with screen protectors and are available in many different colors and patterns.

i use them aswell as a case so i have no scratches on my iPod. i use alcohol wipes and a lens cloth to keep the screen clean. hope this helps!!

    Good question
when i bought my ipod a few months back
i bought a hard plastic casing from the supplier
usually it comes with a screen plastic but make sure your hands are clean when you apply it or your ipod will look smudgy on the mirror back which i think is stupid my goodness why is there actually a mirror at the back to look at your face while listening to music? unfortunately even with a plastic covering on the screen it will still get fingerprints if you are careless. do not put any sort of chemical on your ipod DO NOT you will never know what sort of reaction it may cause on electronic gadgets i suggest you just wipe the screen with a cloth to wipe spectacles the really soft one can remove dirt and thumbprints hope it helps
    oh yes 1 more thing
if you are careless and prone to dropping things get a hard plastic casing because a rubber skin won't protect you precious little ipod if you oops dropped it
