Default Computer wont recognise or charge IPod touch...

My Ipod has worked fine for over a year, then suddenly it stops being detected by my computer. I've looked all over the internet for an answer but all teh soloutions are for the problem, the computer wont detect my ipod but charges it. Where as mine does neither. But I am able to charge my ipod using the plug to USB charge which seems very weird...

Your first thought is, its the cable...
Got two cables tried them both, no difference. Tried using a different ipod (video) on this computer works fine, connects, syncs, cable works fine.

Also tried resetting all settings and erased all content and settings. Rebotting (holding home/sleep) and still no luck.

Aswell as restarting computer, updating/reinstalling itunes.

Anybody got any suggestions before sending to off to apple for repair (if possible?)

    Thanks!

1)I am not a computer tech but it sounds like the computer's usb power works but the actual driver of the usb does not read it, maybe search how to fix that
2)Maybe try opening itunes and then plugging in your ipod touch
3)Also is your ipod touch jail broken I think that might be a problem,

I am suggesting some ideas I am not a computer tech at all just what came to mind.

If you still like your ipod touch check me at livecofriendly.com
