Both my Ipod Touch and my Kindle went kaflooie at the same time, (Kindle has been overseas no prob). Ipod screen display was over-enlarged, it took me hours to finally figure out how to fix it. When the display is outsized like that, you hold a fingertip at one edge and the display moves in that direction. then I could power up and finnaly I figured out that it was a basic settings problem and, after resetting display setting to factory default, the problem was fixed. The reason I suspect it was an electromagnetic pulse was that my kindle, which I had with me at the same time, and which had been on flights overseas, (so passed through metal detectors, x-ray, etc...), never had any problem before this. Its display (and the antenna switch has been off for a long time), was a search function, where the results was 'all sites searched failed'... If you know Kindle, you know how curious this is. It has been rock-steady before and since. Same with the Ipod. Hence my suspicion. Anyone with a similar story? BTW, this was a weekend and Apple staff was unavailable via phone by the time one was available, so no idea how helpful it would have been.
Also, when I got home, I followed (sort of), the trouble shooting hints online from Apple before anything else, but failed, when accessing iTunes, to think of NOT backing up data (always add stuff and didn't want to loose data). That was what probably prolonged the agony --- in the process of backing up data, I probably saved to backup the very problem I was going to try to solve! So, when I did the restore to factory settings and then download data thing, I merely downloaded the problem, too!
BTW I did leave messages via phone with Apple for a techie call-back next day and got a call almost to the minute of when the scheduled call-back was arranged, (recording, but by then didn't need anything).
BTW There I could not find any easy way to CANCEL the apointment online or via phone, so when I got the call the next day I just postponed the apointment and will not reply to the e-mail requesting a new appointment or say 'no problemo'.
All The Best!!!
