Default Ipod touch users have to pay?

Why do Ipod touch users have to pay to update their software but I understand Iphone users do not?

I do not need all that extra stuff that the update offers, I just need it because some of my apps will no longer work without the new update.

I have only had the Ipod touch 8 months, so should I not be able to get the update for free some how from Apple?

All users have to pay if they have not software version 3.0 or above, also iPhone users!
The update is not that expensive, it's $4.95 and then You Will have a much better iPod touch

So you're saying once you have version 3.0, you don't have to pay? My question is when my Ipod touch isn't even a year old, why am I not eligible to receive an update that recent free of charge? They came out with these updates very shortly after I purchased my Ipod touch, so within the 1st year they should update us for free.

And is 3.0 available for free, if so, where can I get it? I don't need all these extra features on my Ipod touch, I don't play video games and some of the other things, so I am paying for things i do not need or care anything about.

No it's only free if You already have 3.0 on your iPod.
And if You think it's not right to pay, then call Apple or go to the store.

And of You don't need all that extra features that makes the iPod touch such a great device, then don't update

There's no need to be nasty. I'm just saying there are other people like me who don't need or care for all those extra features like the gaming stuff but need a basic update so that apps they purchased previously will work. There should be a basic update so regular apps will work that is free and then a premium one for a fee for people who want all the bells and whistles.

I was saying you buy this and then they come out with an upgrade within a few months and I have to pay for the upgrade, I mean even my Apple computer gets upgrades for free and its over a year old. Why isn't the Ipod touch the same way?

I'm not nasty, I only don't understand why you make such a big problem of only $4,95
If it was $49,50 then I understand, and I said if you don't think it's right then contact Apple.

Well I guess it's the principle of the thing when they came out with the upgrade right after I got this product. I mean I do not have to pay to update my computer, why then do I have to pay to update my Ipod?

Right after your got the iPod is not right, because you got it 8 months, and as I said $4,95 is not that much. But why you don't contact Apple for this, I can't help it.
